As computers have gotten bigger and faster, most software has gotten fatter and slower.  The net result has been little increase in real performance.  Our programs are built for speed, using proven efficiency enhancing techniques forgotten by most developers.

If it doesn't flat-out boogie, then it isn't yesware.

Truly "faster than a speeding bullet," the SR-71 Blackbirds were built in the 1960's.  Forty years later, they still hold the speed record for jet powered aircraft.  Most aerospace engineers agree that this is "forgotten technology", and that we could not build a comparable airplane today.
